“This is just part of the damage we recieved,,most of our trees were down, but the most beautiful view of the valley right below my living room window, it looked like an ice crystal forest! Lincoln AR, (right off of Jackson Hwy) (we just received our power back on after 6 days)

“Howdy. I am transplanted to southwest Kansas from northwest Arkansas (Prairie Grove, to be exact). Two years ago, we had exactly what you’re having. Hardest hit were the animals as there aren’t that many trees! Living in town at the time, we were without power for four days. However, rural power was out for 29 days. We had empty shelves in stores, too!”

“I planned ahead and kept warm with my fireplace, had a “coal oil” lamp and a camp lantern, for light, had plenty to eat. I`m 82 and I grew up on a farm in Kansas in the 30`s and 40`s without electric lights, so it brought back memories!! Alma Fry, Blue Springs Village -Springdale”

“South Fayetteville here,we finally got power. Our house is an old farm house so we had heat, hot water and cook stove.I’ve lived through an ice storm down south back in the 80’s, so I knew what to expect…my husband and 5yr. old took it the worst..We got to help out a friend with no power and frankly, I had a blast…I cooked some good food and we all sat around and entertained each other.I took the opportunity to explain to my child that life used to be this way, and people were closer…they talked more and worked together to accomplish things. In my neighborhood we checked on eachother, and except for the scare Tuesday nite when the power line snapped, hit the ground and knocked the gas meter loose, which sent flames shooting out …we did rather well. God Bless.“

“No power, no cable. How about a chorus of Monty Python’s “always look on the bright side”. grandsons disappointed there wasn’t more snow to play in. Can’t bet Northwest Arkansas for variety of conditions.”

“Hi. These were taken by me today, January 28, 2009, in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. I have a home there, but live with my family in California. I was visiting to get a week of peace and quiet from my adorable three-year-old twins. There is nothing like a power outage and being iced in to appreciate some peace and quiet. However, I’m headed home tomorrow for some warm sunshine and plenty of noise.”
