I had an assignment to shoot the Anime Club at Lincoln Junior High today in Bentonville. Once I arrived at the school I was a little concerned about whether or not I was going to get a usable image from the assignment. It’s challenging to get photos of someone drawing at a table. Their heads are usually down, so getting a shot of the subject and their work in the same frame is tough. The girl pictured here was assigned by the club’s sponsor to draw an Anime portrait of me. When she finished she held up the drawing to show to her friends at the table. I shot the photo, not really thinking I was going to use it. Turns out it was the best of the bunch, and it just happened to have me in the picture. It’s kind of funny. Normally as photographers were’re always trying to keep ourselves out of pictures, like reflections in a mirror or shadows if the sun is at our backs. Having a drawing of myself in one of my photos is a first.
