Participants walk during the 1Sky Arkansas chapter of a nationwide march to oppose what they see as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s nonenvironmental positions Saturday October 24, 2009 in Fayetteville. A group of local business owners and members of 1Sky want to support a clean energy jobs bill, and joined the growing number of businesses in America criticizing the United States Chamber of Commerce on the issue.
The marchers organized at Campbell and Dickson streets, and marched to the downtown square where there were speakers, music and performers. Bikes, scooters, and electric cars followed the marchers in a parade style march. The event in Fayetteville is part of a larger rally organized by 350.org. Some 1,300 events are planned around the country. 350 is the parts of carbon dioxide in parts per million in the atmosphere that most scientists agree we need to get back down to in order to maintain a healthy planet, said Ryan Denham, one of the local rally organizers.
