President George H.W. Bush

President George H.W. Bush spoke at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville Monday April 6. Hundreds of people lined up in the cold weather over an hour early for the opportunity to hear President Bush speak as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by the University of Arkansas. He opened up his speech with a rather funny joke, spoke about his relationship with President Bill Clinton, and stressed the importance of serving the country – as part of the military or by volunteer work.

I had the opportunity to photograph his son, President George W. Bush, in 2007 when he toured Northwest Arkansas. As I was editing my photographs tonight I was struck by the resemblance of father and son. In so many of my frames, one could have been mistaken for the other. Photographing Presidents is such an amazing experience. Even though my images were average frames, capturing the faces that make up our history are the photographs I’ll never forget making.
