Seven a.m. is usually a couple hours too early for me. But Sunday morning I was more than happy to wake up and shoot the annual Hogeye Marathon in Fayetteville. I shot the start of the race at the Fayetteville town square, because it’s an important story-telling image to make. Afterwards, I followed the runners along Dickson Street and north to the intersection of West Avenue and Lafayette Street. It’s a visually interesting intersection I’ve always been drawn too, and made for a great backdrop to shoot the runners. It was a different Fayetteville scene than I usually shoot, so it made me happy that my images looked somewhat unique to the area. The Fleet Feet Sports crew were handing out water to the runners wearing cowboy hats, overalls, and plaid shirts. I had such a great time shooting this event in the beautiful early morning light that I’m not often awake for. It may have inspired me to wake up a few hours earlier every day!
