As a photojournalist I am a “Gatekeeper”. I decide how I present information to my readers via my photographs and words. I do my best to convey this information without bias or opinion but sometimes it is a hard thing to do.
Last night I covered an event and we published this photo in the paper today.
It looks like a crowded planning session. In fact not many people showed up to the event but because of my lens choice and angle the photo does not show the whole scene, which in fact was more like this.
I chose to go with the first photo because the story was about the process as opposed to the number of people who participated in it. If the story was about a lack of interest on the part of the public I probably would have picked the second photo instead of the first.
