LITTLE DREAMS

SHELTER-BLOG.jpg

This was one of those assignments that are fun but emotionally difficult. I was assigned to shoot photos at the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter in Vaughn. The shelter houses children on an emergency basis, often for the Department of Human Services. The number of foster homes is on the decline so the shelter has become an even more critical resource in caring for children whose lives are in crisis. Despite their lives being disrupted and their futures uncertain, the kids were a joy to be around. They were having fun painting, dancing and having story time while I was there. They were quite curious about my camera and loved seeing pictures of themselves. They were very proud of their painted pots and several made sure to show them to me. A little part of my heart broke each time they came to me seeking praise and reassurance. I’d like to extend my thanks and admiration to the folks at the shelter for the difficult and good work they do.
