House fires occur with some frequency and as a photographer I go to quite a few. You become very detached when photographing something like this because if you become emotional you won’t do your job well. Sometimes though, when people are hurt or die, it’s difficult to maintain that distance. In this case, there was a bright note. A man was asleep in this house when it caught fire. His neighbor came over and woke him up, possibly saving his life. It’s that spirit of caring I sometimes need to think of on days where bad things seem to happen in an unending stream.
